Every Sunday in July, August and September there are three buses Thirsk to Helmsley and back. The service also operates on Bank Holiday Mon 29 Aug. Event imageBattle of Byland guided walk, Sutton Bank National Park Centre, YO7 2EH. We set off from Sutton Bank then head down to Gormire Lake and towards Hood Hill, following the route taken by a detachment of the Scottish army aiming to circle round and catch the English defenders of Sutton Bank. As our return route goes up Roulston Scar, hear how they went via a steep gully named ‘Hell Hole’ and a spot still known today as ‘Scotch Corner’.
