Closed footpath by Cod Beck

Blog image

A permanent solution is being drawn up to repair the footpath connecting St James Green with Marage Road in Thirsk which is in danger of collapsing into the river. In May, the public right of way was closed after reports of cracks and movement of the pavement. North Yorkshire County Council urge the public for  patience over the closure.

Inspections revealed that the route has been severely affected by river erosion to the retaining wall, damaging and reducing the structural integrity of the iron footbridge as well as the path leading to it.

Following extensive surveys a number of solutions are in consideration before repair work can be carried out. A date of when the route will be reopened cannot yet be confirmed.

Hambleton Local Plan

The current Hambleton Local Plan runs up to 2026. Work on planning up to 2035 started in 2015 and is now nearly complete. The plan is available to view and comment on by Tue 9 Nov latest.

It sets out the vision and objectives for planning in Hambleton; allocates sites for housing, employment, retail, leisure and other forms of development and sets out development management policies.

It was submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination in March 2021. Public hearings were held in Oct & Nov 2020, with a further one on 1 Jun 2021. The Inspectors say some modifications will be needed.

The Council is now consulting on a schedule of proposed Main Modifications, plus a number of other documents.

Comments should only be made on the documents listed on the website below and comments on the Main Modifications must relate to the legal and procedural requirements for preparing Local Plans.

Make a Difference Fund

Blog image

Pictured are association chairman, Cynthia Hesmondhaigh, trustee, Derek Adamson, and District Councillors Mark Robson and Dave Elders.

East Thirsk Community Association received a grant of £16,650 towards improvement work from Hambleton District Council through the Make a Difference Fund.

Now, for the second year running, there is £250,000 in a scheme that offers grants to community projects. The Making a Difference Fund helps local groups across the district deliver projects they cannot afford to fund themselves.
Sometimes the amount awarded may be small but the difference to the community can be massive.

Each of Hambleton’s five sub-areas based around the market towns of Bedale, Easingwold, Northallerton, Stokesley & Thirsk, and their surrounding villages, have £50,000 to share out.

All applications must be for for £2,000 or more and be supported by the local Ward Councillor, with Cabinet Members giving the final approval for accepted schemes.

Applications are now open and must be submitted by Sun 5 Dec. A decision on which applications have been successful is expected in March 2022.
