International Repair Day

Blog image

On Sat 19 Oct Thirsk Repair Cafe will join others around the world in celebrating International Repair Day and 15 years of Repair Cafes.

We will be operating in Thirsk library on that morning 10am-12.30pm and will be open to anyone who would like to come and see what we do, have a chat and enjoy a welcoming cuppa.

The Repair Cafe organisation originated in the Netherlands in 2009, started by people who were appalled at the growing throw away culture, and the widespread manufacture of items which cannot be repaired without special equipment, if at all.

We have been present in Thirsk since June 2022 and are one of the 351 Repair Cafes in the UK and 3245 now operating worldwide.

Here at Thirsk we have a very talented team of volunteers and so far we have repaired some 550 items, the range including clothing repairs, tool sharpening, clock repairing, electronic devices, toys, mobility aids, electrical items and so on.

We welcome anyone to join us and are especially keen to have younger volunteers who can carry on the work for future years.
